For more information about: Buy B12 visit the blood pressure site site High Blood Pressure Be Gone today.

Q: What is the difference in the amount of micrograms in vitamin b12?
I’m going to start taking vitamin b-12, for healthier blood and more energy. In stores they have three different bottles, one was 120 count, and two more were 60 count. The difference in the 60 ct ones was that one was 1000 micrograms and one was 2000 micrograms.

What is the difference in the two, and how will the amount of micrograms affect me?

Thanks

A: It depends a little on your age. But you don’t really need more than the 1000 micrograms.

The difference between 1000 and 2000 is just how much is in them, by weight.

More than what you need just results in expensive pee! This particular vitamin is quite safe to take.

Q: what is the long term affect of getting the vitamin b12 shots?
I have low thyroid and my doctor suggested getting the
B12 shots to boost my energy, yet what are the affects of that on my organs in the future?

A: None that I know of. If you need them they’re helpful.

Q: What happens if you overdose in Vitamin B12?
I’m just curious because I am supplementing alltogether about 190 milligrams or ug.
That is just from a multivitamin and a B12 supplement.
Is that too much and what will happen?

A: B12, is a water-soluable enzyme. Like Vitamin C, excess amounts of it is rapidly filtered out by the kidneys and excreted in the urine (which will be VERY yellow to orange looking while it’s doing so)

In english= If your kidneys are working even 50% of what they should be, you cannot overdose on vitamin B12.

You literally piss it all away….so worst case scenario, you’re just wasting your money.

Q: What happens if you overdose in Vitamin B12?
I’m just curious because I am supplementing alltogether about 190 milligrams or ug.
That is just from a multivitamin and a B12 supplement.
Is that too much and what will happen?

A: If you have healthy kidneys it is almost impossible to overdose on B12

Signs of over dose: numbness of any part of the body, itch, a feeling of burning pain or pricking.

Q: Is it safe to take 2 pills of Vitamin b12 a day?
If I get a bottle of Vitamin b12 where each pill has 1000 mcg would it be safe to take 2 of those a day? one in the morning and 1 at night or shoudl I just take 1 a day

A: are you that desperate for 2 pills? if they pprescribe you 1, drink 1 not 2. There may be a sideeffect but your not gonna die, im pretty shure of that

Q: Is a ton of vitamin B12 in energy drinks bad for you?
I just got an energy drink called Zipfizz (which is similar to 5 Hour Energy drink) and has 2,500 mg of B12 (41,000% daily value). Is that bad?

A: naw, the vitamins in it are good for you …

the chromium and caffeine, on the other hand, should be taken in moderation, too much of those are unhealthy

Q: Is the vitamin B12 NEVER found in plants?
Occasionally I’ll see erroneous claims of B12 being contained in certain highly nutrition plants- spirulina, alfalfa, comfrey, clover, other edible algae, etc. Many people have shot down this very sugestion, but I’ve seen other reports of their being links between B12 and other plant proteins.

The issue, of course, is not whether there is ever enough in plants to sustain you. I’m just wondering whether it is even possible for some strain of B12 to be found in a plant, protist, or fungi.

A: As the asker is using plants in a generic sense and actually mentions algae it is worth qualifying the previous answers.

Many algae however do contain B12, often at high levels due to a bacterial symbiosis.
Nature 438, 90-93 (3 November 2005) | doi:10.1038/nature04056

They may not make B12 but it can certainly be found in plants, naturally and not just via contamination.

Q: What is the best Vitamin B12 pill i can get at Wal-Mart? around about price?
i have Vitamin B12 Deficiency.

A: If you have laboratory documented B12 deficiency you want to take a very high dose B12 supplement (and, your doc needs to be working with you to determine WHY you are B12 deficient). You should be taking at least 1000 micrograms (mcg) of B12.

Wal-Mart probably only sells B12 as cyanocobolamin. Many nutritionally trained health care professionals recommend the active form of B12 for supplementation called methylcobalamin.

Best wishes and good luck.

p.s. some people will recommend a sublingual B12 supplement (a tablet you suck on) vs. a capsule or tablet you just swallow. The key for most people is the dosage (at least 1000 mcg) and not so much the manner of delivery.

Q: how many mg of vitamin b12 would provide a good amount of engery?
i need a jolt to get my up and going today and i dont wanna resort to energy drinks or coffee. i have a bottle of b12, 100 mg tabs. how many mg is a good amount for energy? my body handles medicine very well, as in i never have experienced any side effects before. this might be good or bad, depending if that means my body digests more of the pills than it is supposed to.

A: Vitamin b12 doesn’t provide “energy” per say. It plays a role in cell metabolism which provides cellular energy, and it also affects DNA synthesis and regulation, and fatty acid synthesis. This cellular energy is needed for a healthy brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood.

Dietary guidelines say you should get.
2 to 3 µg (micrograms) per day, which would be 100% of your daily value.

Q: Does anyone know if the Floradix Kindervital liquid multivitamin for kids has vitamin b12 in it?
I’m going vegan soon and I need multivitamins. I already got the Floradix Kindervital stuff but I don’t know if it has B12 in it. I read the medicinal ingredients, and it doesn’t say B12 anywhere, but maybe that’s not where I should be looking? So anyway, does the floradix stuff have B12? Thanks:)

A: I know the adult formula has B12. I love Floradix!

It looks like the Kinderformula only has B6 in it:

http://www.amazon.com/Flora-Kinder-Childrens-Multivitamin-liquid/dp/B0006II800

You could supplement it with some brewer’s yeast which is a good source of B12.

Why don’t you just take the adult formula? I’m a pregnant vegetarian, and I was recently diagnosed as slightly anemic. My midwife recommends Floradix, and after a week on it, I feel better.

If you are concerned about Iron, Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses is a great source, with 1 TBS providing 20% of iron, and it is cheap. You could just do Brewer’s yeast flakes, and molasses daily and it would be almost the same as floradix.

Q: how to get more vitamin b12 in your system?
my great grandmother is 91 and her recent check-up test results said that she is low on b12. i was wondering if there are any specific foods, etc. that can help us to get her b12 count up. is there any specific sites that could help? also are there any specific side effects of being low? if so, do any sites also list these?

A: The Office of Dietary Supplements has a great site that offers many suggestions:

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitaminb12.asp

Being vegan, I understand the importance of vitamin b12. I turn to “nutritional yeast” (which can be found at your local health food store) and sprinkle it on many different foods. You can find great recipes that incorporate nutritional yeast on www.vegweb.com

And there are always just b12 supplements that you can find in your local grocery store in the vitamins aisle.

Good luck!

Q: What is Vitamin B12 and what does it have to do with energy drinks?
I personally don’t understand scientific jargon, so a simple and clear answer would be awesome. Thanks!

A: Vitamin B12 helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells. It is also needed to help make DNA, the genetic material in all cells.

Its main role is to support the transfer of amino acids during energy production, which is why it is found in energy drinks.

Q: What is Vitamin B12 used for in ur body?
what is Vitamin B12?

A: vitamin B12 covers a variety of similar compounds called cobalamins. they are involved in DNA synthesis so deficiencies lead to insufficient DNA synthesis and cell maturation – particularly red blood cells. this is why vitamin B12 deficiencies cause anaemia (megaloblastic anaemia). the nuclei of the erythroblasts (‘parent’ cells of red blood cells) take longer to mature but the cytoplasm continues to grow so the cells produced are disproportional and larger than normal red blood cells. B12 deficiencies can also affect other rapidly growing cells in the body such as cells lining the gastrointestinal tract which can lead to gastroenteritis and related problems.

Q: what is vitamin b12 good for?
i need to know what vitamin b12 is good for? and whats the difference between folic acid and b12?

A: folic acid/folate is needed by women of childbearing age to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida, 400micrograms/day is needed.
B12 is important for the intrinsic factor which is part of the digestive system and is needed for the absorption of nutrients, the most effective method is by injection once/month. All B vitamins are good for energy and stress.
AND they make your pee bright yellow, so it looks like you ate a highlighter pen

Q: Vitamin B12 is 4.34% cobalt. If there is only one atom of cobalt per molecule of B12, what is the molar mass?
When i ask the molar mass i mean the mass of vitamin B12.

A: One atom of Co per molecule of B12 means 1 mole Co per mole of B12.

1 mole Co weighs 58.933 grams. If this is 4.34% by mass, divide by 4.34 and multiply by 100.

(58.933/4.34) × 100 = 1357.903 = molecular mass of vitamin B12.

Q: Cut down on HTN medication?
I went to the doctor today to redo my rennin and aldosterone hormone test and my aldosterone which was in question is now in good normal limits, where as it was very high and high before.

The doctor recommended that i cut down my medicaiton maybe even eventually stop it?

My rennin levels are high, most likley from the medication im taking it which is influencing it, as they were low in the initial test.

The question is, if i cut down or even gradually stop the medication, how long will it take for my rennin levels to go back to normal? Should i check myself in a hospital if my blood pressure suddenly kicks in again?

Some advice would be good, prefb from someone whos gone through stopping or lowering their medicaiton.

Im taking full micardis 40 and half norvasc 5 atm..

A: cut down the micardis but leave the norvasc for now montor your pressuer everyday if you have a home machine or most drug store have one remember to sit for 5 mins before taking pressure readings , and the track these in a book , my husband only takes norvasc he stopped micardis as he was getting sicker with it after 6 months good luck

Q: Doctor wants to take off my HTN meds?
Hey everyone, I’ve been suffering from high blood pressure for ages, but now my blood pressure is low.. like 112/73 sitting and about 99/58 laying down. My doctor wants me to get off my half a tablet of norvasc 5, as im taking 2, 1 micardis 40 and that.

I’m a little scared to come off my medication, as last time i did i was in awful agony… any advice? support or ideas? anyone done this before? would love to hear from you.

A: Hello Impact,

The goal blood pressure for most people with hypertension is less than 140/90. Your blood pressures are a little lower than they need to be, which increases your risk of developing certain side effects such as lightheadedness. It is reasonable for your doctor to decrease your Norvasc 2.5 mg, which truthfully is not that big of a change. You should monitor your blood pressure closely after the change and notify your doctor if you have blood pressures persistently above 140 on top or 90 on the bottom. I think it is unlikely that you will develop any problems from this change or have blood pressures above the goal. If you do develop any problems, then contact your doctor right away. If that occurred, then it would be reasonable to return to the 5 mg dosage. Good luck.

I’m just not going to get a professional opinion, am I?

A: Totally. Idiot doctors. Unless your moms on her last leg

Tin

Q: question about the pill and anti-biotics?????
so i started ona new pill after being off it for about 3 months, because i was getting really bad side effects. anyway, i wanted to try this one which apparently helps with my symptoms of endometriosis. i begantaking the pill after my period ended adn then four days later i saw the doc again as i was getting really sick. he gave me antibiotics and told me that the pill didnt work if i was taking antibiotics. so i started taking my antibiotics and stopped taking the pill until i had finished them. now im just wondering… my course is nearly up and im feeling much better, but if i start taking the pill again the day after i finish my antibiotics, will it be effective? i know i have to be taking it for about a week or two until it gets properly in my system and stuff.. but will the antibiotics continue to effect the contraceptive within the week of me finishing the antibiotic and begining the pill again? are there any other meds that can effect the pill from working? im on pristiq and micardis as well.

A: call the place you bought ir from, look it up on line or read the papers that came with the med/

Q: Do you recover from significant non ischemic cardiomyopathy?
I am a 33 y.o female & have recently been diagnosed with significant non ischemic cardiomyopathy. After suffering what my GP told me was a sever asthma attack,it was found i had high blood pressure, which was originally thought to be from the asthma attack but after re-checking a week later had not gone down & started medication & sent for further investigation due to having a history of family heart problems. My dad has high blood pressure & started medication at 48 & my grandfather had a triple heart by-pass in his 60’s. After further investigations my diagnosis was made, & from what i understand, which is not much due to this all being so recent & mind boggling, i have an enlarged heart & the walls of the heart are weak.
I am taking 80mg micardis daily & bicor 2.5mg daily.
I started the bicor 4 days ago & am under the understanding that it will be increased gradually.
What i am wanting to know is how long am i likely to have to take these medications for & will my heart go back to its normal size & the muscles strengthen or is this going to be something i have for the rest of my life? & how likely is it the my children may have these problems?

A: Unfortunately, no one on here will be able to tell you the outcome of your heart condition or whether your medications can be discontinued in the future. There are too many variables unaccounted for due limited information. You have to discuss it with your doctor. It would also be helpful to know how weak your heart is and the best marker of this is the ejection fraction from an Echocardiogram.

First of all, how do you know that it is nonischemic and not ischemic cardiomyopathy? This requires a cardiac catheterization in most cases to directly visualize the blood vessels that supply the heart. It is important to determine this because revascularization (e.g. cardiac stent or bypass) can improve the heart’s function. There are many different types of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, such as secondary to high blood pressure, dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, abnormal heart valves etc. Each of these is associated with different outcomes and may have slightly different treatments. The most likely cause in your case based on the information you provided is from high blood pressure. If this is the case, then controlling your blood pressure can reverse some of the damage in the heart and the heart’s function can improve over time. If the condition has been going on for a long time and there is significant damage to the heart, then it might not be reversible.

There are several things that have been shown to improve symptoms of heart failure, reduce mortality and improve heart function in some cases. Medications that have been shown to have these benefits in heart failure include the beta blockers (Metoprolol, Carvedilol, Bisoprolol, etc.), ace inhibitors (all end in “pril”) and angiotensin receptor inhibitors (all end in “sartan.”) The combination of a nitrate and Hydralazine has these benefits in certain patients particularly African Americans. You are on a beta blocker (Bisoprolol aka Bicor) and an angiotensin receptor blocker (Telmisartan aka Micardis.) Bisoprolol is approved for the treatment of high blood pressure, but it is not approved for heart failure/cardiomyopathy. Carvedilol and Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL) are the most well studied beta blockers for heart failure and are approved for this indication. Bisoprolol most likely has similar benefits to other beta blockers, but it has not been studied for this indication. Some patients will require these medications for the rest of their life. Some patients may have improvement in their heart function with these medications and may be able to discontinue these medications. Your doctor will likely reevaluate your heart function after appropriate medications have been given for a few months. Discuss this with your doctor. I am sorry if this may be too much information, but this is a complex topic. Let me know if you have other questions.

Q: Do I need to worry if my doctor said my heart sounds were hard to hear?
I had a physical and I tend not to fuss about things. When I got home I started to wonder if having soft or quiet heart sounds was a bad thing? I am 47 and take micardis for high blood pressure. I am a little over weight and could stand to lose in my mid section but work out about 20 minutes 5 x week (during work at the gym). I lift weights mostly-my bursitis in the hips keeps me from using aerobic machines. Besides the HBP I do on ocassion get light headed which is just very transient moments and go so quickly and is not real common so I don’t say anything

A: Micardis can cause a weak heart beat (not very common). If you take potassium supplements or salt substitutes with this medication stop them immediately. You may need to take a blood test to check your potassium levels because this medication can cause hyperkalemia (high level of potassium). I would talk to a cardiologist about your concern. There are many things it can be, but it just may be the way your heart works..

Q: Psychology Blood pressure?
Hey guys im 25 years old, I have blood pressure, I’m currently on a micardis 40, and a norvasc 2.5 (half of a 5 tablet). The doctor has recommended that i get off my norvasc, because there should be a problem with 1 medication holding me for the entire day.

I’m a little anxious about discontinuing treatment, has anyone stopped a hypertensive before? what happens if my blood pressure goes back up again? do i just wait until i see the doctor or should i treat it? I usually feel very odd when my bp goes up, and my heart does strange things and I get very anxious which dosn’t help, but i cant control it.

How long does it take for me to see the effects of me stopping my hypertensive?

I also notice that last time when i was not on hypertensive medication i feelt very heavy and almost as if my body was revved up, could this be all caused from some type of underlying psychological illness that i have no control over? if thats the case could someone tell me a bit more?
My current blood pressure sitting is around

110/60

115/70

A: My blood pressure has been high 160 over 85. My doctor insisted on medication. I told him please let me try diet and exercise first. Running for me has brought my bp down to 120/70. At first it kicked my butt, but now I am use to it. I also stopped eating foods with lots of sodium, I eat healthier foods, lot’s of veggies. At first I hated it, but now I like it. I have been consistent with getting good reports from the doctor.

I also have learned that proper breathing can lower your blood pressure. By doing deep breathing exercise before taking my blood pressure, the bp is always below 130. Google “breathing and blood pressure” there is a lot of good information on how breathing can effect your bp.

I would recommend doing some cardio when you get off the meds, this has done me wonders.

Your blood pressure is great now, you can keep it that way naturally. It takes work but it can be done. Good luck

Q: About 2 weeks ago my Blood Pressure was 162/104, it has fell to 152/73,how can I lower TOP NUMBER?
DR put me on Lasix, Micardis and low salt/fat diet….yet my Top Number remains higher!!!
Headed to the Health Food Store for Organic Vinegar and Garlic Pills!

HELP PLEASE,,,,I’m trying hard I’ve dropped about 9 lbs down from 350 to 341
ANY ADVICE is appreciated!!!

A: You have to give it time, your systolic pressure is declining. Those two medications aren’t commonly used through my experience in controlling hypertension. Lasix is a Diuretic used mainly for patients on CHF, congestive heart failure. we use either HCTZ; hydrochlorithiazide or clonidine.
I’m not saying he’s wrong I’m saying there are alternative medications to try out. If you have had this hypertension with the medication for 2 weeks it’s Time to try a new one.
Also contact your primary care physician to ask if the is using the lasix for the hypertension or CHF (it is used for both).

Q: Question about High Blood Pressure and medication?
For the last couple of months my blood pressure has been all over the place. Sometimes its really high. Sometimes a little high and sometimes just normal. I had mentioned to my doctor one day about 2 episodes I had where my blood pressure jumped extremely high. I was just sitting on the couch watching a movie and the other time on the computer. I always know when my blood pressure is high because it makes me feel kinda funny. After I had told her this she looked back through my chart and noticed that it fluctuated quite often. She was mostly concerned with the lower number. Anyway, she prescribed me 40 mg of Micardis.

I guess I’m concerned that if I take this medication and my blood pressure is “normal”, will it make it drop lower? Of course, I didn’t think to ask her this when I saw her and getting a hold of her is very difficult. Just looking for people who may have experienced this before.
I am in my late 30’s. My mother had a stroke when she was in her early 40’s. She was not diagnosed with hypertension until after her stroke.

A: My husband takes something else for his but had the same bp issues that you describe. He’s been taking bp meds for about three years now and has never had any problems with low bp. He feels better, all of the time now. You may need to try different meds to find the one that works for you, he tried about three before he found the right one. Good luck.

Q: what do you know about vitamin B12 for weight loss?
A friend of mine took B12 injections to loose a substantial amount of weight for her wedding (in addition to diet and exercise of course). I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this, or tried this, and what were your results? Thank You.

A: yes its absolutely true

a 250 pound friend lost weight that way!!! I’m so jealous and currently on a diet cos I was always the thinner one !!!!!!

Q: Vitamin B12……….?
I took Vitamin B12 supplement one tablet before 6 hours but still it can not digest by me, i am feeling my tongue has rust taste and vomiting sensation.Feeling bad bad bad. What should i do? Please tell me
as soon as possible…

A: don’t take any more

Q: Vitamin B12?
Does Vitamin B12 inhibit muscle growth?

A: no

Q: Vitamin B12?
is vitamin B12 on a pill just as good as shot for helping you lose weight

A: I own a health and nutrition business and have taught fitness. The answer to your question depends on your age and the condition of your system. The older you get, the less able your system is able to absorb B-12, until when you get into middle age, your system loses it’s ability to absorb it altogether. Also, many vitamin pills have a coating that doesn’t break down in the digestive system fast enough so the vitamin washes out before your system has a chance to absorb it.
There is a product called sublingual B-12 that you can get most places. “Sublingual” means “Under the tongue” and sublingual B-12 is dissolved under the tongue and delivered directly to the bloodstream. Taking 5000 mcg per day in a sublingual form should give you much the same benefit as the shots without the UCK factor. Since B-12 is a water soluable vitamin which washes out of the system quickly, you want to look at spacing it out over several times per day and not just once.
As far as what it does: B-12 of itself doesn’t help you lose weight, but it is called the “stress vitamin” as it helps with energy, helps handle stress, and basically helps even out the mood swings one can suffer when they are losing weight.

Q: Vitamin B12?
I am extremely tired all the time, I have PCOS and I am sure I am anemic!
I am wondering if taking a b12 supplement would help?

I read it helps with exhaustion
any tips?

A: b vitamins are the only vitamins that when i take them, i actually feel a difference. i would actually take a b-complex vitamin, they help with yoru nervouse system, make you feel awake and i findthey just brighten my overall mood.

find out for sure if you are enemic, you might need an iron supplement. that can be a serious problem

Q: vitamin b12?
I am extremely tired all the time, I have PCOS and I am sure I am anemic!
I am wondering if taking a b12 supplement would help?

I read it helps with exhaustion
any tips?

A: I would defiantly talk to your doc. he/she might put you on iron pills if, your anemic. B12 supplements work very well, you can get a B12 shot which is absorbed quicker…I would eat a diet rich in legumes, vegetables & meat, which are rich in iron…
The are two different type of iron in food: haem iron, found in red meat seafood and poultry, and non-haem iron found in breads, fruits, breakfast cereals, vegetable, legumes (e.g. baked beans), nuts and eggs.

Haem iron foods are rich in iron and contain iron in the form that is easily absorbed by the body. Red meat also has a special effect on iron absorption. The meat when eaten together with the vegetables, can boost the absorption of non-haem iron by up to four times. Vitamin C also has a similar positive effect on the absorption of iron.
In other words, the key to an iron rich diet is to eat a combination of iron rich foods high in both haem and non-haem iron.

Q: Vitamin B12?
I thought I heard Dr.OZ on the Oprah show that you can consume 1200 mg – 1500 mg of B12 daily… I can’t remember the exact amount and can not find the archive for it on her web site… does any one know

A: All the B vitamins are water soluble, so you could take as much as you like (within reason, see link below for B6 caution) without hurting yourself as long as your kidneys are healthy. Just know that the resulting fluorescent color in your urine is all the extra that your body didn’t need, your $$ flushed away.

Water soluble vitamins are the B’s and C.

Fat soluble vitamins are A, D, E, K; it is possible to reach toxic levels of fat soluble vitamins.

http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/topic100587667

Q: vitamin b12?
what would happen if had injections of B12 and your B12 reading was normal
my reading is borderline….had it done at one london hospitals.because more than 4people in 3month period people had similar readings they changed goals post of what that hospital now say is normal….that was after a schilling test…

A: Vitamin B-12 is water soluble, and the excess would be excreted fairly rapidly.
.

Q: vitamin b12?
is it true that after you brush your teeth at night and go to sleep b12 forms in your teeth and when you get up you have to drink water so it can go down to your stomach so you can get energy?

A: Hi.
Turn things around: Why should it be true?
Where do people get their B12 from? The answer is food. After you eat your body still needs to extract B12 from the food so this idea is totally absurd.
If you think you need B12 just buy some B12 tablets!!
Best of luck!!

Q: What low level of Vitamin B12 would be considered deficiency anemia?
Yesterday I was told by my doctor my Vitamin B12 level is 97, and that I should take supplements. She didn’t say I was anemic, but everyone I’ve told has been shocked and asked if I was anemic. Any ideas?

A: you can probably find your answer on this site somewhere! http://www.dsib.org/vitamin_B12?utm_source=sm&utm_medium=blog_posts&utm_term=vitamin_B12&utm_content=vitamin_B12&utm_campaign=sm
it’s a website called the dietary supplement information bureau and it has a lot of information on pretty much every vitamin and mineral, as well as what disabilities and diseases it can treat. hope this helps

Q: If taking a vitamin b12 gives me energy does that mean I was deficient?
If it gives me energy for a few hours does that mean I didn’t have enough b12 to begin with?

A: No… it wouldn’t work that quickly, I wouldn’t think.

B12 deficiency causes anemia, because B12 is used to make red blood cells. I doubt in a short time of taking B12, it got absorbed into your blood from your stomach, and then got taken to the bone marrow where it was used to make more red blood cells.

I think it was something else that boosted your energy.

There is no such thing as a B12 “boost”. Either you have enough, or you don’t.

If you suspect you’re deficient (if for example you have symptoms like tiredness and breathlessness) you can get the doctor to check you out, and they’ll measure the levels of red blood cells in your blood, and see if you have anemia.

Q: How do you get Vitamin-B12 in a vegetarian diet without any supplements/vitamins?
How to get Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 would also be nice to know.
I’m not trying to lose weight and eating fish is not vegetarian. If you eat fish you are eating meat; therefore, you are not a vegetarian.

A: Legumes (beans) for B12

Q: What are the symptoms of taking overdose of vitamin b12?
I am taking a needle of “Depovit b12-1000″ every 2 days, is that a lot?

I am taking b12 coz my hands shaking so hard, and i am 23 years old BTW.

PS. i am taking Centrum multivitmins too!

A: Everything you might want to know about Vitamin B12:

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitaminb12.asp

No reason to inject yourself; there are plenty of oral forms. It’s water-soluble, so the excess is eliminated by the body. There is no official upper limit of Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12 is readily available in animal food sources, which is why vegetarians need the supplement. It is also used for medical conditions, such as pernicious anemia.

Q: Vitamin B12 and vegetarianism?
Hi, my family have all been vegetarian for nearly ten years now.
My mum has just been diagnosed with severe B12 deficiency.

Do you have a list of vegetarian foods that contain this vitamin?

Thans for any help!
We’re not vegan- we’re willing to eat dairy products.
Geflite girl- it wasn’t caused by the vegetarianism, the deficiency is auto-immune. But thanks for your comment.

A: I’m really sorry to hear of your mother’s deficiency. She may have problems absorbing and utilising the vitamin. I know meat eaters who have low levels of B12, it’s not a deficiency that only us veg*ns get.

The good news is that a lack of B12 can be alleviated with a B12 shot every 3 months. (See a medical professional about this).

Algae, seaweed and spirulina are NOT reliable sources of B12. The importance of this vitamin should never be underestimated because as you probably know, a deficiency can cause a whole host of problems, most notably neurological (nerve) damage.

Vegetarians CAN get plenty of vitamin B12 from cheese, milk, eggs, yogurt, enriched dairy free milks (like soya, oat, rice), and fortified breakfast cereals. Maybe your mother should see a nutritionist- she most probably needs B12 supplementation.

Good luck! :]

Q: What are the benefits of Vitamin B12?
I have heard and read a lot of conflicting opinions. Is it true that B12 can help with metabolism/weight loss? If so, how long before the effects are noticed?

Thanks.
That’s good to know. I have a history of moderate anemia.

A: You need all the B vitamins. B12 does help with energy level.

Q: About 2 weeks ago my Blood Pressure was 162/104, it has fell to 152/73,how can I lower TOP NUMBER?
DR put me on Lasix, Micardis and low salt/fat diet….yet my Top Number remains higher!!!

HELP PLEASE,,,,I’m trying hard I’ve dropped about 9 lbs down from 350 to 341
ANY ADVICE is appreciated!!!

A: You are doing on the right direction. To get perfect control of HTN need sometime.Next time to see your doctor he will adjust the dosage of your present medicines.Micardis is medicines belong to ARB group(angenotensin receptor blocker) is very popular antihypertensive drug,if now you only on 40mg daily can be increase to maxium 80mg daily. If still not get the perfect result there are plenty of other drugs can add in such as beta blocker, calcium blocker and more. You really need to work on your weight.Without knowing your height no way to know how much weight you normally should have.Over weight is not a simple issue,if sever over weight you need professional help, some time just ordinary busy doctor may not know how to handle this problem. The principles of reduct weight is not complicated but practically to apply to individual case is not easy.

Q: Can someone take 1.25mg norvasc?
If someone is being treated for hypertension and is taking 1 tablet of micardis 40, can he take a little norvasc such as 1.25mg? even if the minimum dosage is 2.5? Assuming 1.25mg does the job?

A: You have received many responses to a very simple question. The answer is Yes that you may take amlodipine besylate 1.25 mg daily along with telmisartan (Micardis). I wish you the very best of health and happiness and in all things may God bless. JR

Q: low blood pressure?
hi, i am taking medication for high blood pressure. it is called micardis 40. i have just taken my blood pressure with new batteries in my monitor and i am getting a reading of 92 over 62. I am also on diabetic medication. is this anything to be alarmed about

A: my blood pressure was 88 over 52 last week when it was taken! it’s always been low and i get told it’s better than being high, it means less lijkely to have a stroke but may feel light headed at times

Q: need any answers please?
im taking blood pressure medicne for high blood pressure, can i drink while on this? i dont drink much, but i want to get drunk, just like once a month…its micardis with a diuretic

A: Im not sure, it doesn’t say on your prescription bottle? If your not sure about it, I would call your pharmacist and ask them, they would know.
I wouldn’t drink while on any medication if I wasn’t sure.

Q: i am anemic should i not take any of these medicines?
my medicines-are -pristiq—one source vitamin-micardis-famotidine – levothyroxine–vitamin-d-plavix-asprin crestor–glipizide er–glucophage–verapamil hc–meclazine–gabapatin–zolpidem–prempro–advair inhaler–albuteral inhaler-hydrocodone/apap–furosemide–alprazolam

A: Ask your pharmacist.

These are all pretty common meds, but it looks like your list got cut off a bit.

Q: BP is low, cut medication?
Hey all, I’ve been pretty well investigated and it seems that I’m suffering from a bit of blood pressure. Originally i was on a very small dose of micardis, half a 40 tablet, but I’ve been put up to 1! And then i started taking a little bit of norvasc a 2.5 dose.

Ive been well for months, and at times my doctor thought I was maybe being slightly over treated, as he measured my bp at 97/58, and recently about 110/60. He wants me to try to weane off the norvasc, and try to just be on the micardis! Either to take half a tablet every second day until its out of my system or for me to reduce it and take quarters. The thing is that last time i was put on the medication because my blood pressure was not controlled properly, and id wake up at night time feeling very unwell, and the occasional weakness in my hand.

I’m a fairly anxious person and I’m only young 25…. and recently its been quite hot over here… so ive been getting slightly dizzy and stuff… Is it time for me to begin to cut the med? If so.. has anyone done it before? and what should i try to do to minimize the after effects of coming off the medication? If my blood pressure isnt held and it suddenly starts to kick up again should i go to hospital?

Any advice would be good! even moral support.

A: Well, nobody can diagnose you on a Yahoo answer board, but frankly, you sound as if you’re experiencing a bit of anxiety. 110/60 is an excellent blood pressure. Coordinate with your physician so you’re taking the proper medication to maintain this pressure, and you should do fine.

Q: Hypertension problems please help!?
I recently was put on micardis for blood pressure and hypertension, it looks like its a hormonal cause, anyway ive been on a diet now and exercised and by taking micardis the bp has lowerd to 110/60 sometimes even 99/55! its really low, i stopped taking the medication yesterday! i just cut it off, i know i shouldn’t, but whats a strategy to lower the amount and get off this horrible drug! ? or should i try it for a another day or two if the bp dosnt go back then im back to normal? its already been a full two days and the blood pressure hasnt returned! if anything its really low now! im slightly scared!

A: That’s not terribly low. Please contact your primary health provider regarding your decision to discontinue the medication. If it is the medication that is causing your BP to dip, he may prescribe you a smaller dose. Be aware of orthostatic (positional) hypotension when sitting up or standing from a laying position. Also be sure to take your BP around the same time of the day and even try to keep a log of recorded BP values. Give this informatio. To your doctor, it may help him identify possible changes that need to be made to your prescription.

Q: At what BP do i stop BP medication?
At what target blood pressure on rest can i stop blood pressure medication.

My rest bp right now is 105/60!

On micardis 40
and norvasc 2.5

thinking of either cutting a little bit on the micardis 40 tablet, or cutting off my 2.5 tablet of norvasc

let me know

Is that ok for me to lower a little of my medication? Ive been given the green light by my doctor to do it, but i just wanted to get some input and maybe hear from people who have stopped theirs…

A: Don’t stop your medication. Your BP is normal because you are taking them.

One thought– there has been one report of an association between Micardis and lung cancer. The company insists it is a safe medicine., and the increased risk is small. Still, there are other Angiotensin Receptor Blockers. Cozaar has recently been made in a generic. I know how much Micardis costs. You might ask your doctor if he is concerned about the reports about Micardis, and if he thinks it is a good idea to change to another. Only Micardis was implicated in the increase in lung cancer. The others had no association. If you stopped your ACR blocker altogether, what usually happens it the BP slowly comes back up. If you have been exercising, lost weight, etc, maybe you do not need it. Otherwise, you probably still need to be on something.

Q: Blood pressure medication? anyone?
Hey guys im 25 years old, I have blood pressure, I’m currently on a micardis 40, and a norvasc 2.5 (half of a 5 tablet). The doctor has recommended that i get off my norvasc, because there shouldn’t be a problem with 1 medication holding me for the entire day. But last time I had to add a norvasc because i noticed during night times the micardis would stop working and as I’m sleeping my blood pressure would go high. Then id wake up and feel very weird and unwell.

I’m a little anxious about discontinuing treatment, has anyone stopped a hypertensive before? what happens if my blood pressure goes back up again suddenly? Is there a coming off effect for my medication i should be aware off? and if my bp raises during my discontinuation, do i just wait until i see the doctor or should i treat it? or should I treat it right away?

Ive more or less been ignoring my condition as my blood pressure has been good, and over the last few months even a little low, like 96/58. At the moment its about 115/75 with rest, what would be the expected number for my bp after i discontinue my norvasc? what happens if i feel very ill and symptomatic? is that normal?

How long does it take for me to see the effects of me stopping my hypertensive?? days? hours?

I also notice that last time when i was not on hypertensive medication i feelt very heavy and almost as if my body was revved up, could this be all caused from some type of underlying psychological illness that i have no control over? or do people feel very revved up, and hot and cold in certain parts of their body, tingling and dis balanced when they stop all their hypertensive treatment?

Best answer is to anyone who can give me a detailed reply to all my questions. If you copy and paste i will simply ignore your reply.

A: Given a choice, I will not take any medicine, but go on a healthy lifestyle.
Start on an exercise programme and eat healthy diet.
By doing the above, you may easily reduce your blood pressure to healthy level.

Q: Info on Medical ID bracelet?
it was suggested to me to get a medical bracelet with new medication I am on. I am 26 and having a “condition” is new to me and I bug my dr. with like 500 questions so maybe I can get the answer here.
With the medicine I am on (Micardis and Norvasc) there are a lot of interacations. Do I just list that I have hypertension and Ventricular tachycardia OR list the medications. Since I am having the bracelet made anyways should I list my allergy to medications? And lastly what general info should be on it (i.e. name)

A: Put all medical conditions on it (not meds as the Dr. can change them at any time) List all medication allergies (I even put that I am allergic to wool on mine because ambulances use wool blankets in the winter) Put your blood type on it, it will save time in an emergency, put a contact person in case of emergency (Mom + Phone # ) You can put your Dr.’s name on it so they can contact him about what meds you are taking. Your name & address is up to you but not necessary, I was a paramedic and we ALWAYS check for a medical ID bracelet.

Q: Disorder in heart beat?
I am having disorder in heart beat, significantly my heart beat fast sometime and sometime it is slow….
I am a diabetic patient taking Avadiamet, Micardis 80gm, Lyphantyl.

I am having breathing difficulty, pounding heartbeat, dizziness, sweating (It is not very often). I feel that my tonsils are swollen but they are actually not.

It’s public holiday now and it is impossible to contact my doctor. Can anyone provide me some ways to ease my uneasiness temporarily up until I see my doctor? May God bless you….
Could anyone please tell me what to do temporarily up until I see my doctor?

A: If you are concerned you really have no choice but to seek medical advice!

It is very unusual these days to see patients (and certainly doctors,)refer to all these medications by their brand names. You are also on a slightly quirky bunch of drugs.

Micardis is telmisartan is one of the newest and least used of the angiotensin II receptor antagonists.

Avadiamet is a fixed combination drug, many doctors, including myself prefer the control of using drugs separately. It contains metformin a well established diabetic drug, combined with rosiglitazone. There have been ongoing concerns about the safety of this drug and as recently as August this year a further BMJ article (http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/339/aug18_2/b2942?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=rosiglitazone&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&sortspec=date&resourcetype=HWCIT) expressed concerns about it’s cardiac risks.

Lyphantyl appears to be a very rarely used fibrate,(I apologise if this is not the case or you have mis-spelt some other drug) I have to say it barely appeared on any of the search engines and in none of the UK drug databases! Fibrates are themselves seldom chosen except in patients with rare familial hyperlipidaemias. Statins are unquestionably the lifesaving cholesterol lowerering drugs of choice.

Q: I can feel my heartbeat recently after a hard exercise?
Hi,
I am 34 and not much of a sports person but have started swimming with a trainer for the last 2-3 week. I have high bp and take micardis for that. In the last couple of nights i can feel my heartbean and can not sleep well. it does not seem normal. it is pushing hard. my pulse or bp is not hight though. my bp is around 120/80 and pulse is 60-80 when i am relaxed but my heart seems to be pushing and banging harder!
any suggestions?

A: dont rely on us for a qualified accurate answer, u gotta ask ur doctor bud!

I am in my late 30’s and my mother had a stroke when she was in her early 40’s. She was never diagnosed with hypertension until after her stroke.

I did ask this question in another category, but I was hoping I might get some more input.

A: Try packing the bong away for a while…

… sorry about your mother

Q: Rebound Hypertension?
Hey im on micardis 40 and norvasc 2.5

My doctor wants me to stop the 2.5, as ive been experiencing skipped heart beats and other issues which have become allot more relevent since ive been taking this drug. Its been 4 months now, and my numbers have been low, 110/50, 105/59 on rest…

Im scared about rebound hypertension effect, my doctor just told me to go cold turkey on my 2.5 mg because it wasn’t much, but im very sensitive and i want to be very prepared. Any ideas?

A: Skipped heart beats are quite common, even in healthy people. I wouldn’t worry about going cold turkey. The sooner you are off the medications, the sooner your health will be restored naturally.

Congrats on the low numbers. This is what the medications are designed to do – keep you dependent on them for the rest of your life. Personally, this isn’t a good prospect, in my opinion.

Your blood pressure may be stabilized using the medications, but you still have serious health concerns that the medications aren’t addressing – the CAUSE of the high blood pressure. And, until you address the cause of the problem, you’re destined to stay on the medications for a long, long time.

High blood pressure is caused by dehydration. Doctors won’t admit to this because they refuse to recognize the effects of dehydration at this level. Doing so would require them to prescribe water and there’s no profit in this. Instead, they’ll prescribe medications that artificially maintain an acceptable predetermined blood pressure level. This requires you to stay dependent on the medication, allowing your doctor to profit from the medications and perpetual office visits to monitor your condition.

You can get off of this financial merry-go-round by treating yourself for dehydration.

One of the things you’ll need to do to treat dehydration is to increase your salt intake. Yes, doctors do claim that salt causes high blood pressure – and he’s probably told you that you need to stay away from salt. But if salt causes high blood pressure, then cutting back on salt should lower your blood pressure without having to resort to medications – you take away the cause and the problem should resolve itself.

Obviously, something is wrong with that theory.

Because every cell in the body depends on water for proper function, when you don’t drink enough, the body’s water management system rations the water so that the vital organs are supplied with the water they need. Blood is 94% water and salt, and so the body will sometimes borrow water from the blood to inject into the cells.

This causes the arteries to constrict and the blood to thicken, requiring the heart to exert more pressure to pump the blood.

Increasing the water intake with enough salt to maintain the critical balance needed will restore the water levels, returning the blood pressure to normal.

Click on the link below to learn how to do it properly.

NOTE: Do NOT discontinue any medications you are currently taking without your doctor’s consent. This treatment will lower your blood pressure – your doctor will adjust your medications as needed.

Q: dismissed from medical practice what do i do?
i have no insurance, i have high blood pressure and take micardis, hctz, plus levoxyl for thyroid. they have refused to refill scripts in the past unless i come in. when i do it is around $150.00, because they do all this blood work. i have told them i can afford an office visit ($65) but not $150 every 6 months plus $200 for meds. it was around $350.00 for meds. but i quit taking the one for high chloresterol and another blood pressure med. they had me on.
anyway to the point, i have been making payments on the balance for almost a year now. i get it paid down and it’s another blood test. they sent me a certified letter in march saying the were gonna dismiss me. i called them, they said they seen we were making payments, approved it by there supervisor and said i would not be. now i am out of meds. and they will not see me or refill meds. becauce there is a note in my file saying i am dismissed. is this right, legal, what do i do?

A: 100% legal. Medical providers in private practice have the right to dismiss patients. It’s a part of the practice of medicine. They have to monitor levels of medication in your blood to keep the levels where they need to be. No other way to do it other than blood work.

Q: Micardis 20 to 40mg? How long it builds up?
So when you take 20 mg, and then you start taking 40 because the doctor wants you to. How long does it take for the amount to increase in your blood?

A few days? right away? a week?

A: Your question is rooted in pharmacokinetics. The drug “builds up” in your body as soon as you start taking it, but your body also tries to eliminate the drug as soon as you start taking it. Think of it like a bucket of water with a small hole in the bottom. If you slowly poor in water, the hole can keep the bucket empty. If you increase how fast you pour in the water, however, the hole in the bottom can’t keep up, and the bucket begins to fill. Eventually you can reach a point at which the pressure from the weight of the water in the bucket causes the water to shoot out the hole in the bottom at the same rate at which you are pouring in water from the top. At this time, the level of water in the bucket will not change. In pharmacy, we call this “steady state.” Taking medicine has the same effect as pouring water in the bucket, and your body has various ways of getting rid of the drug, similar to the hole in the bottom of the bucket.

Since the body gets rid of 1/2 a dose of Micardis in 24 hours, you’ll reach a new steady state concentration in about 4-5 days.

Q: Is Micardis a beta blocker or an ace inhibitor?

A: Neither. While it is used for the same kinds of conditions as beta blockers and ACE inhibitors (for hypertension), it is a different category. It is known as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. This makes the principle of action similar to an ACE inhibitor, but the location of action is different. It ends up preventing constriction of the blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure by giving them a wider diameter.

Q: Micardis 40, Micardis 40 plus?
What is the difference between micardis 40, 80, and 40 plus? and 80 plus?

A: what ya mean

Q: How do i stop my norvasc?
Hi, im on micardis 40, and norvasc 2.5 (half of a 5 tablet)
Ive been asked to stop the norvasc, but im very anxious about doing it, as i take it at night time to control my bp while i sleep!

Will my body go through a re balancing act? what should i look out for?

What is a easy way to come off it, should i brake it into quarters? or half every second day?

A: Gradually increase your water intake (adding a little salt) and your blood pressure should eventually drop enough to get completely off the medications.

The links below explain better what causes high blood pressure and the best way for increasing your water and salt intake.

Q: Why is my blood pressure so high?
Why is my diastolic blood pressure so high, while my systolic is normal? I watch my sodium intake…I’m active and practically stress-free. My blood tests came back normal. Also, my dr. has put me on 2 BP meds: Toprol and Micardis. It’s helped my systolic but not my diastolic BP.

A: Avoid caffein, spicy, fat/cholesterols, and maintain optimal weight. Try grape juice, potassium or magnesium supplements before deciding to change to other pills or extra ace blocker until you find the best fit, because there are numerous causes of BP.

Q: Why would my husbands triglycerides be 5568?
Why would my husbands triglycerides be 5568? He does take a zocor for cholesterol and micardis for blood pressure.

Thanks
Wendy

A: Normal range of triglyceride is <150 mg/dL or ,1.69 mmol/L
Causes of Hypertriglyceridemia include:
* Idiopathic (constitutional)
* Obesity
* High sugar diet
* Diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance
* Excess alcohol intake
* Nephrotic syndrome
* Genetic predisposition
* Certain medications (e.g. isotretinoin)
Changes in lifestyle habits are the main therapy for hypertriglyceridemia. These are the changes you need to make:
•If you’re overweight, cut down on calories to reach your ideal body weight. This includes all sources of calories, from fats, proteins, carbohydrates and alcohol.
•Reduce the saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol content of your diet.
•Reduce your intake of alcohol considerably. Even small amounts of alcohol can lead to large changes in plasma triglyceride levels.
•Be physically active for at least 30 minutes on most or all days each week.
•People with high triglycerides may need to substitute monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats — such as those found in canola oil, olive oil or liquid margarine — for saturated fats. Substituting carbohydrates for fats may raise triglyceride levels and may decrease HDL (“good”) cholesterol in some people.
•Substitute fish high in omega-3 fatty acids instead of meats high in saturated fat like hamburger. Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon are high in omega-3 fatty acids.
Consult your doctor.

Q: Does anyone know if psilocybin (magic mushrooms) has any bad drug interactions with other medications?
such as Metoprolol XL or Micardis (telimisartan) ? please answer if you truly know the answer. otherwise, you need not answer. thanks!
and with it being said that the mushrooms will raise BP, doesnt that mean the Metoprolol and Micardis will help bring down the blood pressure since they are used in lowering high blood pressure?

A: Drug interactions are done through controlled studies or doctors reports. There are very few reports on psilocybin because it has no legal uses. There is no information available about drug-drug interactions.

However, psilocybin can cause anxiety and increased heart rate and BP which is very counter- productive for someone on metoprolol and micardis.

Q: Good BP med for someone with Asthma and Diabetes?
I have Asthma, Diabetes and Hypertension I was taking Altace to control my Hypertension which caused an awful cough… doc recently changed me to Micardis and I’m still coughing. This is the 5th go round with medicine to control my Hypertension.. It has been very costly!! Anyone know of a medicine that REALLY works for someone in my situation?

A: There’s no easy answer. Drug reactions are individualized.

When trying a new med, ask for samples to save money. If it works, then get an Rx. If not, you’re not out any money.

Contrary to a prior answer, beta blockers can, with care, be used in your case. Ask your doctor.

Q: Side effects from bp medicine?
Does anyone have side effects from their BP medicine, and if so what are they?

I’ve been on the minimum dosage on micardis and its doing all sorts of strange things to me! not to mention dis balancing my rennin and aldosterone level, so if i ever try to get off the medication itll be allot harder unless im going straight onto another one.

Id like to know anyone else experience, and what drugs are you guys taking?

thanks!

A: Hypertension is caused by dehydration and can be cured.

People don’t realize that they’re dehydrated. Symptoms such as heartburn, runny nose, headache and many more are passed off as everyday nuisances. They may take an over-the-counter medication to suppress the ailment, but the root cause is still there.

The human body is composed of a 75% water and salt solution that needs to stay critically balanced to maintain proper health. When we don’t drink enough water, one of the places the body will get its water is from the blood, which is composed of 90% water.

Taking the water from the blood will cause the arteries to shrink slightly, and the blood to thicken, making the heart work harder to pump blood to the various parts of the body. This is what we see as high blood pressure (hypertension).

To treat this, you’ll need to increase your water intake, which will require you to increase your salt intake as well, since salt retains and regulates the water.

The salt that doctors warn you against is the normal table salt that you find in the corner grocery store. This salt has been “processed” by heating it to 1200 degrees to extract the mineral content to sell for other applications. What remains is sodium and chloride that are void of any nutrients. There is also an anti-caking agent added to make it free-flowing. This anti-caking agent is toxic in large quantities, and it’s because of this that it is so dangerous.

“Unprocessed” sea salt, on the other hand is taken straight from the sea and contains over 80 trace minerals that the body needs.

To learn the technique for treating your hypertension, click on the link at the bottom. It’s completely free.

NOTE: At no time should you reduce or discontinue your medication without a doctor’s supervision.

Q: what happens if i stop taking my hypertension pills? please advise.?
i’m taking micardis since two months ago to control my blood pressure 130/90. i stopped a week ago and i am much alert and less drowsy. is it wise to stop as my doc said not to miss taking it daily. please advise.

A: All I can offer are the personal observations I made of a friend of mine who had hypertension.

Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure claused by a constriction of the muscles in the walls of the arteries. My friend’s doctor decided to use a diarretic approach. This decreased the amount of body fluid, and like deflating a tire, it did in fact decrease blood pressure. Unfortunately, it also made my friend desperately thirsty. He would drink at least a quart of water during lunch and then complain the next day he couldn’t sleep at night because he was always going to the bathroom. This went on about two years until his kidneys began to fail. I’m no doctor, but it seems to me my friend’s kidneys were simply being worked to death. My friend is now on dialysis.

Your drowsyness leads me to believe that some sort of seditive is being used to treat your hypertension. Again, I’m no doctor, but my advise is you are probably better off taking the medication if all it causes is drowsiness. Hypertension is very serious and can lead to heart attacks and strokes with no warning signs at all. This is also why lung cancer is so deadly because it gives no indication there is any problem untill it is too late.

Frankly, I distrust American medicine. It’s so hard to tell where the medicine ends and the marketing begins. It also disturbs me that Americans want to solve all their problems with the proper pill. A good deal of the things treated in this country are what might be called psycomatic illnesses. For example, my hypertensive friend was quite paranoid and I’m sure his insecurities contributed to his medical problems. Migraines, acid reflux and hemorehoids also fall under this category as far as I’m concerned. Sure, I need a doctor if I break a leg, but if it’s something I can fix myself, I’m better off on my own.

Hyperetension sits right on the boundry of something you can cure yourself and something your doctor needs to be involved with. My suggestion is to work with your physician on this one. The things you can do yourself is trying to eliminate excess stress in your life and also be aware that salty things can cause you to drink more fluids than you ought to. Being overweight also adds to the problem (my friend was also very overweight). Smoking is obviously bad for your health and nicotine even raises blood pressure.

In short, a lot of routine medical problems are things people can solve themselves. American’s aren’t naturally lazy or stupid – unfortunatly their culture encourages them to be so.

Q: My blood pressure has always been high at 170/105 despite my medications. I am also diabetic.?
cardvedilol, micardis, plavix, metformin , crestor. BP is high in the morning and goes down in the afternoon. What is wrong with me?

A: most people with high BP are higher in the morning. it’s important to take your BP meds so
that they peak in the morning when your BP is highest. also, Carvedilol should be taken with food since this increases the amount of absorbed drug that reaches the heart and arteries. without
knowing the dose of the cardvedilol or micardis , i can’t make any suggestions. higher doses
may be called for if you’re not already maxed out. if you are maxed out, you may want to
swap the beta blocker for a calcium channel blocker or ACE inhibitor. your BP needs to under
140/90. by the way, 85% of people with high BP have what is called essential hypertension
with no known cause.

Q: Pls., can anybody help me? … green, soft stool– why?
Events:
Sept. 15-20– menstruation with dysmenorrhea plus high blood pressure; well-formed big, brown stool
I took Buscopan once for the stomach cramps.
After a couple of days, felt nauseous, so I took domperidone
Then I had a loose stool– yellow
Ate green vegies (broccoli, etc.)
My stool turned to green. Since it is a bit loose, I took immodium once.
Question: My stool has been green for three days now. What is causing it? Is it the grape jelo? Is it blood pressure medication which I started taking (Micardis) that’s also causing diarrhea?
Another thing, I’ve not gone back to my regular solid meals. I’m into soft diet…
This is the third day, why is my stool still green?
I noticed also that due to not eating my regular meals, I became suddenly acidic and been taking Nexium, twice already. What’s with the green stool? How can I change it back to brown? I’m also feeling tired and sleepy and feels full since the dysmenorrhea and the high blood pressure.
A BIG THANKS

A: It’s the grape jello. Anything that purple color will cause green stool. Lay off the grape jello and don’t do red either. Good luck!

Q: Taking hypertension meds without hypertension?
What happens to a individual that takes micardis hypertension drug for a month but he has no hypertension?

A: The would probably end up with mild hypotension, the condition would correct within a week or so after they stopped taking the medication.

Q: Phentermine and High Blood Pressure Medicaton?
I am currently taking Micardis for borderline high blood pressure. If I take Phentermine are there any drug interactions that I have to be concerned about? Can I take both at the same time or should I wait between dosages?

A: For better information, you might want to post this in the health section. Also, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

Q: Hypertension meds too strong?
Hey im currently on a full tablet of micardis 40 and i recently went on half a tablet of norvasc 5. My BP is a bit low on rest…

95/55….

Is it bringing my bp a bit too low?

A: thats alright, not too low. in fact ideally (but really who can??) your bp should be as low as possible without fainting . if you feel dizzy ask your doctor to reduce the medications.

Q: subarachnoid haemmorhage?
I had a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage on the 30th June 2009. Prior to this my blood pressure had been stable. Since this event my blood pressure is mostly high, and occasional drops. My systolic blood pressure has been as high as 196 and diastolic 111 one day this week, but has been even higher on occasions over several months. I was on Nimodipine while I was in hospital (neurology), but sent home without hypertensives. No cause was found for my hemorrhage,(I did not have a berry aneurysm) and since being discharged have been prescribed Irbesartan, Atenalol and now Co Tenidone.

I am due to return to work in a month, which I am dreading, because the Occupational health doctor thinks I need a less stressful job, and I am really worried about where I will be sent, working with new people or working further away from home. They have promised me a phased return, but I am really apprehensive. I am 55 years old, but have very little pension accrued.

I also have some concerns over Fitt testing, this was performed just before my hemorrhage, Bitrex was sprayed in my face 30 times,,under a hood (about 15 inches square), as i was to administer humidified oxygen to patients who had swine flu. I took ill about 1 week after this test I believe Bitrex is a vaso dilator. Could this have been a factor in causing my brain hemorrhage? I Can anyone help me please?

A: follow up with your neurosurgeon & neurologist.

Q: any doctors or nurses here? i went to my doc last week with what i thought was cystitis type infection?
i had been feeling like i needed to pass urine all the time for a few days, however , i t was not like the usual cystitis where u hv to go every few minutes however it was more frequent than usual mostly due to the fact i had pain in lower abdomen which was relieved slightly by passing urine. i also had pain in my back. the doc checked sample and said it didnt look infected but sent to lab and gave me trimethoprim for 7 days. im on day 5 and to be honest hardly feel any better still feel i need to go and its only partly relieved when i do pain in back is still there altho abdomen pain has gone. im taking irbesartan for my bp and original doc who gave it to me told me it can cause kidney probs, do u thinkit may be this or what else could it be? thanks for yr help ps.i do have a docs appt for thurs when antibiotic is finished.

A: It is entirely possible that the antibiotic that you were given is not effective for the infection you have. But your GP can’t do anything until the results of your urine test are back to: A, see if there is an infection present and B, see what antibiotics it is sensitive to.
Give your surgery a ring and ask if it is possible to speak to your doctor. Explain your worries to him.
Hope you feel better soon.

Q: Pain in the right lower abdominal quadrant.?
Hi, my husband collapsed in Oct 07 with severe pain in the lower right quad he was taken to A & E. After 4 hours he was sent home and referred as an outpatient by his GP for an ultrasound scan-results clear, an endoscopy-results clear but after another extremely nasty attack of pain admitted by his GP to hospital on 1 May 08. He has undergone a rigid Ziggy including biopsy-results clear, bareum enema (tilt table)-results clear, cat scan (not ivu)-results clear albeit slight calcification to the appendices. Currently on 30 tablets a day we are in desparate need of some answers. He takes Irbesartan Approvel 300mg + 2.5mg Bendroflumethazide diaretic for his blood pressure which he has been on for about 15 years. In addition he has now been prescribed 1gm paracetemol 4 times a day, 20mg buscapan 4 times a day, tramadol 50 mg 3 times a day cylizine 50 mg 3 times a day and now an anti depressent 1 at night. He hasn’t been able to work since October. Anyone have any ideas? PLEASE.

A: Could be diverticulitis, a spasm in part of the intestine. Very painful, not life threatening though. Some people are more prone to it than others.
Ask your doc.

Q: Glomerulonephritis patient with 39.5degree fever…?
A 59 year old man with 14 year history of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. U-albumin 2-5g/day at last checkup, GFR OK at last checkup. Hypercholesterolaemia. BMI 33 kg/m2. Smoker.

High dose Felodipin, metoprolol and irbesartan, but still high BP at regular checkups.

Recently (2 weeks ago) returned from holiday in Turkey
Vomited 3 days ago, since then no more vomit, but fever and general aches. Feels tired, worn out. Slight cough, some throat soreness.

Presents today for tiredness…

Fully conscious
Temp 39.5
Puls 136
BP 137/104
Lungs sound fine
Cardiac sounds faint, no murmurs
No flank pain, no other pain
Normal abdominal sounds

And that’s all I’ve got!

I’m thinking possible ANF, possible sepsis with a hidden pressure drop (maybe he’s normally over 200 – I don’t know!), possibly a malignancy…

Any pointers gratefully received!

A: Have you considered intravenous bisphosphonates? Or a referral to a Kidney specialist?

Q: my bp 3 months back was 180/190-95/100.after trying 13 tabs is stabilised to 140/150-80.i amnow taking coappro?
i.e irbesartan 150+hydrochlorothiazide 1250.stamlo5 i.e amlodipine.5.and nebicard 2.5 i.e nebolol or atenolol 2.5 in night my other medical reports r normal sugar ecg etc.one of these tabs cause me nausea.since 20.11.09 my bp is stabilised.doctor does want to reduce the tabs or dose.what shd i do? I am 73 yrs

A: all the above drugs cause nausea, i dnt suggest reduction, but i advice a cardiology evaluation.

For more information about: Vitamin B12 visit the blood pressure site site High Blood Pressure Be Gone today.

Q: I have developed a bunch of little mouth ulcers. Can this be from lack of vitamin b12?
I went vegetarian this year & I usually take vitamin b supplements every day but I have forgotten almost every day for about 3 weeks.

In the last 3 days I have developed about 6 little mouth ulcers inside my bottom lip. I heard this can be caused by lack of vitamin b12, is this likely?
I brush with an electric toothbrush, floss & rinse twice a day every day. I doubt it is lack of oral hygiene

A: It can happen from lack of propper oral care as well. If you drink a lot of sugared bevarages your mouth becomes a feeding ground for bactiria. And without oral care your problem and tooth decay is what can happen next.

Q: Will vitamin B12 tablets help to loose weight?
Well at the weight loss clinics they can give you vitamin B12 shots to assist in loosing weight. I was wondering if the B12 tablets would help also.

A: The formula for losing weight is simple – consume less food and move more often – the problems surface when we actually try to put that into practice! There are loads of opportunities to fail in the real world don’t you think?! The sole method that clearly showed results for me was wu-yi tea, it can be checked out in the resource box underneath, they have a small number of free trials remaining, it has been highlighted in Fox News and USA Today. I shed thrity pounds, it clearly does produce success!

Q: Has anyone ever gotten a vitamin B12 shot?
I had a blood test done and it revealed that i’m anemic. The doctor recommended I get vitamin B12 shots every 2 weeks and take iron pills, is it really necessary?

A: I have had a B12 shot and felt nothing.

A few years later I was iron anemic. I took iron vitamins. (four 27Mg’s a day, 2&2) They make your poop black after about a month. That’s how you know they’re working. After 2 months I had another blood test, and I was no longer iron anemic.

I now eat eat more red meat, dark leafy greens, egg yolks, nuts. You can google “iron -rich foods,” or “foods with lots of iron.”

Q: My MCV size is below the normal range (microcytic) but the doc has put me on Vitamin B12 supplement .It it ok?
My MCV size is below the normal range (microcytic) but the doc has put me on Vitamin B12 supplement .It it ok?

A: Errrrrrrr………..good question.

If i have not mistaken, microcytic anemia are caused by iron def…
Vit B12 and folate def are commonly for macrocytic anemia.

Ahah.. If you ask your doc again, i wonder whether he would change your medication prescriptions…

If prescription of B6, its still ok because hypochromic anemia may be caused by vitamin B6 deficiency from a low iron intake, diminished iron absorption, or excessive iron loss.

Q: Do vitamin b12 reduces Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?
Methionine becomes Homocysteine and Homocystein becomes Cysteine with the help of Vitamin B6. While Vitamin B12 converts Homocystein into Methionine again.

Cysteine, Glutamic acid and Glycine are amino acids needed to synthesize Glutathione. Western diet is rich in Glutamic acid and Glycine but little Cysteine.

Do Vitamin B6 really increases Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?

Do Vitamin B12 really reduces Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?

A: Fredd didn’t answer your question!

Q: Is it possible to overdose on vitamin b12?
I drank an energy drink called “5 Hour Energy” I read the nutritional info and it said %8000 daily intake of vitamin b12!
the energy drinks work well but i’m kinda scared of getting sick though

A: i work in a lab that tests b12 levels…
there is no critical high result. that means that no matter how much b12 you have, we are never concerned about it.

your body will only keep and use what it needs, it will excrete the rest. drink lots of water!

Q: How much vitamin B12 do i need?
i have been a vegetarian for 8 months now and am starting to become a little concerned as to how much b12 i really need. i have also begun taking a sub lingual form of this vitamin, the bottle says 3000mg on it, is this a safe amount if taken daily?

A: This is something I’m learning about in my nutrition studies. Someone started this thing about b-12, and no one is sure why. Where as it’s a very important vitamin, you need very little. About 3.5 micrograms a day. That’s MICROgrams, not MILLIgrams.(milligrams are bigger then micrograms.) That amount is easy to come by if you eat dairy. If you don’t then you can get it from seaweed and nutritional yeast and fortifed foods like soy milk, cereal, ect.
Lots of people will tell you you need meat, becasue “it’s a natural source”. That’s not true. Lots of people will say that vegetarians and vegans ignore that meat is the only “natural” source. But animals can’t supply themselves with b-12 anymore than a human. They get is from their diet. And those animals that aren’t raised organically—yeah, they’re feed a supplement, becaue they’re not eating their natural diet . . .grass straight from the ground. So since meat isn’t as “natural” a source as people thought, don’t feel bad for not getting b-12 from it. Take vitamins (But nothing with too much b-12, some doctors aren’t sure if mega amounts is safe. 500-1000 milligrams is safe I think, but I’m not so sure about 3000. If you have doubts ask a doctor or nutritionist.) or eat nutritional yeast and fortified foods. You’ll be good.

Q: is the vitamin b12 healthy when taken in excess?
I’m drinking an energy drink and noticed that there is 4900% Daily Value of vitamin B12…Is that healthy what are the side effects?
wow was my urine neon…pretty neat, i wish someone was there to see it.

A: - EDIT -

As far as side effects?…
Hmm…I’ve never heard of any.
Your body generally expels any extra vitamins anyway, hence why you need to take vitamin supplements everyday.

For example, your body can only use up a certain amount of vitamin B12 a day. Your body also stores years worth of this vitamin, so If you consume more than your body needs, your body will generally just get rid of the rest through urination.

Haha! You’re urine is like neon green because your body is expelling what it is not using lol. (Either that, or you’re an alien LOL).

Hope I helped!

=)

Q: where does the vitamin b12 come from in the products that are fortified with it?
i am planning to be vegan and i have read that you cannot get it from plants and that you have to eat products that are fortified with vitamin b12 but where do they get it from then

A: Vitamin B12 is not produced by plants or animals. It’s the only vitamin thought to be produced in nature only by microorganisms– bacteria and nowhere else. It ends up in animal products because it’s absorbed in their digestive systems. The vitamin B12 in supplements and fortified foods is usually cyanocobalamin and vegan, as it’s a product of bacterial (Propionibacterium shermanii and Pseudomonas denitrificans) fermentation.

If you use supplements, check for other ingredients such as liver to make sure you’re getting only the vegan B12. I’ve seen some cheap vitamins list dried liver in the ingredients.

Q: What is a good brand of vitamin b12 tablets?
i wana know a good brand of vitamin b12 tablets that not too expensive

A: Most generic vitamins sold by a reputable pharmacy (Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) are of good quality. They should all be about equal. Just pick a brand, any brand.

Q: In a vegan society, how would vitamin B12 be obtained?
Would there be some way of chemically synthesizing this vitamin? Would a small number of animals need to be humanely slaughtered to obtain enough B12 to put in our food (or in oral vitamins)? From what I understand, even bacteria produce B12, so we could even grow bacterial cultures to obtain it.

A: From a vegan perspective, you can see by going to the link provided that there are indeed ways to obtain B12 in your diet from other than animal sources. It also suggest supplementation of B12.

You are correct in that they grow bacterial cultures to obtain vegan/vegetarian grade B12, which is easy to obtain from health food stores, online, and many local stores in your area. Best to take it sublingual (under the tongue).

Some have suggested that you can get it from food because there are at time traces of it that are on the exterior of root grown vegetables. Problem is – wash the vegetables – you wash away the dirt with the vitamins.

Safest way is to supplement your diet with fortified foods and a once a week pill that is easy to take.

As you can see by my second link, there really is no reliable source of B12 other than suppliments – even suggested in this website which doesn’t have the more current information that I read about in “Vegetarian Times” just a few months ago.

Such a small thing to do for those that have made the choice from moral perspective.

A small price to pay for those that do it from a health perspecitve.

Another way to get B12 is from nutritional yeast – about 1 to 2 tsp. a day. I personally don’t really like the taste – so another personal choice if one wants to go that route.

Q: Hi, I am 30 years old women. My vitamin B12 is 187pg/ml.How much dosage of b12 I should take everyday?
I am 30years old women. My vitamin B12 is 187pg/ml. My weight is 105 lbs.
My height is 5′ 2. May I know which is the best vitamin b12 oral dosage?
How much Dosage do I need to take per day?

A: You don’t need to take any if you eat a reasonably balanced diet.

Q: In simple quick terms what’s the role of vitamin B12 and folate in DNA synthesis?
Why is that vitamin B12 and/or folate deficiency lead to impaired DNA synthesis (and megaloblasts)?

A: They are both required for the production of thymine, which is the base for thymidine in DNA.

Q: activities shared by vitamin B12 and folate?
Which of the following activities is shared by vitamin B12 and folate?

a. Both are required for DNA synthesis.

b. Both require intrinsic factors for their release from food proteins.

d. Both are considered problem nutrients for strict vegetarians.

A: “a” Because of the impaired DNA synthesis, characteristicly both would cause “megaloblastic anemia” when they are deficient solitary or together.

Q: can someone please help me with Vitamin b12 weight gain?
I heard that taking vitamin b12 can help you gain weight so i started taking them, but then i heard it helps you lose weight HELP!
can someone help me with medicatiton that promotes weight gain?

A: Vitamin B-12 (cyanocobalamine) is a coenzyme and is broken down to a smaller molecular form (methylcobalamine) in your stomach, then that smaller molecular form goes to your liver to be stored and used later. It has nothing to do with weight gain or loss.

Eating more carbs and less fat will cause weight gain, but you will need to eat about 5 meals per day to maintain a level blood sugar. That will cause weight gain.

good luck to you
